Dreaming

I had a strange dream last night.  I was at the end of my Air Force career in Germany.  I was saying goodbye to all my friends, except the people were comprised of people from my career at Emery/UPS.   Telling people I'd see some of them in Utah someday.

I now wonder what it means.

It's been a while and it's almost summer.

We've had quite the time since last fall..

  1. The grandchildren have visited and we've visited them.
  2. Provided babysitting duty during a Ragnar in Las Vegas.
  3. Found out we're going to have a granddaughter in August.  Woohoo, we're really excited.
  4. Victoria has retired.  We managed to leave Portland just ahead of perhaps the one major storm to hit the area.  We drove to Idaho (close Victoria's mother's knitting shop), then Utah to work on mom's estate, then to Arizona to spend time with and babysit the grandchildren.  Overall we were gone about 7 weeks and had a great time.  On the way home, we drove from Arizona to California then Oregon.  The trip home took 4 days, which included a night stay with Victoria's brother in Livermore.
  5. While in the Phoenix area, met up with a FB friend who showed  me some picturesque areas around Phoenix.
  6. We're both still in good health
  7. I'm continuing to walk quite often and feel guilty when I don't walk 10,000 steps in a day.
  8.  We have other trips coming up to the Phoenix area to visit our son, daughter-in-law and the grandchildren.
Now it's spring 2014, almost summer in a few weeks.

The Brain

Tomorrow is the mantel for the mind, yesterday is for the memories.

Ode to Age

I have not planned well this time of my life to know whether or not I'd be alive.
Suffice it to say, I believe, I am truly there.
Many have passed before me, some old and some long forgotten and others, younger and very dear.
Yesterday put me into a group where I think long and hard about what comes next.
I've lived a long time to be of this age.
Not much smarter or anywhere near a sage.
Having said that, I was still able to walk 5+ miles at my advanced age.

Having a birthday with my son, his wife and my grandsons in Arizona
German Chocolate cake has, for the most part, been my request for a birthday cake, this year, there was a twist because we were in Arizona pulling babysitting duty while my son and his wife were in Hawaii.  Owing to the fact that one of my favorite cookies are white chocolate and macadamia nuts.  So, when asked what I wanted from Hawaii, I said macadamia nuts.  Followed by, what kind of cake did I want, I came up with the idea of having German chocolate cake made with white chocolate and macadamia nuts.  My wife, being the dear that she is and a very accomplished cook, used the macadamia nuts from my Hawaiian request and white chocolate to come up with a rather tasty cake.
Perhaps I'll once again ask for the same next year, we shall see.
Thanks all

Spring has sprung, Summer's gone and Fall is here.

I've heard people say this a wonderful time of the year.  Although for some reason the leaves are changing color and falling on the ground.  All the pine cones are falling out of the mighty oak trees and the squirrels are going after nuts, so I have to be extra careful not to be chased by a squirrel or get hit in the head by large pine cones.

Birds of a Feather Scat Together

This morning, I was wondering where pigeons used to roost before window/building ledges, street lights, utility wires and lamp posts were invented?  I noticed a pigeon sitting atop a street light and directly below was a large patch of a ... just to keep this in a family venue .. pigeon scat.  It was rather obvious that quite a few pigeons had used this particular street light.  I would imagine that more that one vehicle had been hit in the process and if on the windshield the driver saying "oh scat" or something of that nature.  Has anyone ever seen a pigeon roosting on anything else?  Which reminds me, one time while working downtown, I leaned against a building with a ledge and one of those pithy fowls aimed right at me and managed to hit me square on the head.  I was pretty perturbed and uttered some blasphemous saying much like "oh scat".

How bout the moon tonight?

Gamboling Deer

While walking this afternoon, I saw these two deer gamboling in our neighborhood.  Apparently they aren't too smart, they didn't have a card table, cards or even pair of dice!  It's not that they were obeying any anti-gamboling laws, since they didn't use the crosswalk when crossing the busy road, which was a gambol in and of itself.
